ABOUT ME
Hello! My name is Victoria Wik, RN, MSc, and I am the owner and founder of Brave Start for Families.

As a homeschooling Mom of three busy children, I know all too well how overwhelming childbirth and parenting can feel, especially when dealing with all the hormone changes! Families today face many uncertainties - from the moment you learn you are pregnant, to meeting your little one, to dealing with toilet training and temper tantrums. While it is an exciting time, there can also be unexpected twists and turns in the childbearing years that sometimes leave us feeling overwhelmed or alone.

I have been a community health nurse for over 15 years, and have had the privilege of walking alongside families in the childbearing stage, especially in the postpartum period. Over the years I have learned that each family and experience is unique, and strong families are an essential part of our society. One of my favourite aspects of being a nurse is education - I have been a nursing instructor for over 5 years, and love exploring ways to deliver health information in an engaging and memorable way (because who doesn't like a good game?!).

Brave Start for Families is the perfect combination of my two passions - health education and a desire to support families in the childbearing years. I want to be able to shed light on the pregnancy, labour and delivery, and postpartum experience so that families can feel confident, and are able to experience more of the joy that this season brings. Having had a midwife with all three of my children I am a strong advocate for natural pain techniques, especially after choosing a home birth with my third. But as a nurse I have seen that when it comes to childbirth there are often many things outside of our control, so it is important to understand all the options. By sharing my knowledge and expertise, I hope to provide families with the information and resources they need so they can have a brave start to the exciting journey of parenting.

I count it as a privilege to be able to walk with your family in this precious time, and am sure that I will end up learning just as much as you do along the way!
